What happened to Mdm Lia?

36 year-old Mdm Lia was working as a food delivery rider on an e-bike since 2019, earning approximately $1,000 a month. In the third month of her pregnancy, she started experiencing severe nausea and dizziness. She eventually stopped her job in January 2023 after she almost got into an accident while delivering orders on a rainy day. 

Since then, Mdm Lia has been actively seeking other part-time employment in areas that she could manage with her current state of health. She hopes to be able to meet the growing needs of her 13 year-old daughter while preparing for the birth of her baby. With her unstable physical condition and unsuccessful employment attempts, Mdm Lia has become increasingly stressed.

Mdm Lia lives with her 13 year-old daughter in a 1-room flat. 

“Like other parents, I want to buy new clothes for my teenage daughter but I cannot afford it”, Mdm Lia told the caseworkers.

Financially unsupported by her partner, and unsure of what the future holds for herself and her unborn child, Mdm Lia is determined to start working again to provide for her daughter. Family played a major part in Mdm Lia’s life while growing up. It is important to her to provide the same support and care to her growing teenager. She treasures the time she shares with her daughter and hopes to nurture a strong relationship between them, both with quality time together and garnering stable income to provide for their needs.
