A Mother Carrying the Weight Alone
Every morning, before Mdm Rajeswari leaves home, she prepares breakfast, checks on her daughters and reminds them to study hard. Then she heads to work, carrying more than just her work bag. She carries the weight of an entire household on her own.
This burden follows years of hardship. In 2015, she obtained a Personal Protection Order due to physical and verbal abuse when her ex-husband was intoxicated. Choosing safety was not easy, but she chose it for her daughters.
Today, Mdm Rajeswari earns $2,713 a month as a waitress in a restaurant. While she takes pride in her work, her income is not enough to meet the family’s needs. To stay afloat, she has had to borrow money. These debts, both formal and informal, add constant pressure, yet she continues to prioritise what matters most — her children’s education and well-being. To add on, Mdm Rajeswari’s daughters are Permanent Residents and they face higher school fees, making it more challenging for the family to manage their monthly expenses.
Despite everything, her daughters remain resilient. The eldest studies with discipline and excels in sports. The younger finds joy in painting, colouring, and folk dancing. Their strength mirrors their mother’s quiet determination.
Mdm Rajeswari has been working closely with her social worker to explore available support options. What keeps her going is her commitment to her children. She remains determined to provide them with stability, education, and safety, even when circumstances feel overwhelming.
What Your Support Will Change
Your support will help to stabilise her finances while she plans for the family’s longer-term needs.Mdm Rajeswari will finally have breathing room. Ray of Hope is fundraising $4,800 ($800 x 6 months) to support Mdm Rajeswari with the daily expenses.
With this support, the change will be tangible. Mdm Rajeswari will move from surviving month to month to standing on steadier ground. Her daughters will feel the difference in the calm at home. Your donation is not just financial aid. It is a statement that she does not have to carry this alone anymore. It is a chance for this family to move from crisis toward stability, from fear toward hope.
