Migrant x Me is a registered social enterprise in Singapore founded in 2019 with a vision to build an inclusive Singapore by empowering youths (13-35 y/o) for the migrant community. Youths of today will be the leaders and society of tomorrow, and there is a need to ensure that the next generation grows up with the right perceptions of the migrant community so that they will be responsible decision-makers in their future roles in society. We do this through creating engaging and experiential programmes such as learning journeys, workshops and talks for schools in Singapore where we raise awareness for the challenges that migrant workers face.Â
We have seen how the perceptions of our participants have changed from stereotyping and discriminating migrant workers to seeing them as fellow humans with a name, family and story. In just one year, Migrant x Me has reached 1,500 youths for the migrant worker community in Singapore! We couldn’t have done this without people who believed in us. As we approach 2020, we hope to reach more schools to double our impact to 3,000 youth participants, with partnerships with at least 15 schools.
To do this, we are opening our open-to-public walks (worth $45/pax) for teachers / staff from schools who are interested in our programmes as we realise they would like to see for themselves what the programme is like before deciding to engage us for their students. We have seen the effectiveness of this method, thus, we aim to raise $1,000/month to sponsor 20 teachers from 10 different schools each month, adding up to $12,000 for 2020.
