Mohinder, now 57, lives alone in a modest one-room rental flat. His story is one of loss and love—a father who has faced more than his share of heartbreak yet still holds tightly to the hope of a brighter future. Mohinder was once the proud father of four children, his family a simple but happy one, despite the challenges they faced. His two eldest children, now teenagers, were born and raised in Indonesia, while he also had a pair of young twins under the age of five.
A Simple Life Shattered by Tragedy
In 2017, tragedy struck, leaving his world shattered. His wife, who had been silently battling depression since 2012, died by suicide, taking their two youngest children with her. For Mohinder, the blow was unimaginable, a pain that would forever shape his life. He had been working as a school maintenance staff member, doing his best to keep the family afloat, but with his wife’s passing, his world crumbled. The loss plunged him into depression, and he was later diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which left him unfit to work. His medical certificate stretched until February 2025, a reminder of the weight he still carries from that fateful year.
Separated by Borders, United by Love
Since then, Mohinder has struggled to rebuild his life, piece by piece. Unable to stay in Indonesia due to visa constraints, he returned to Singapore in 2015. But his attempts to bring his two surviving children to live with him have been blocked by financial barriers and a lack of stable housing. They remain in Indonesia, separated from their father. He last saw them in 2023 after years of saving, when he was finally able to bring them over for a one-week visit. Before that, they had not seen each other since he left in 2015—a stark reminder of the sacrifices he has had to make.
A Story Of Sacrifice and Survival
Today, Mohinder’s life revolves around doing all he can for his sons from afar. Living on social service support, he carefully budgets every dollar, often eating just two meals a day so he can send half of his financial assistance to cover his children’s school fees and basic needs. His sons, now 15 and 17, rely on him for stability, and he is determined to provide it, no matter the personal cost. Despite everything, Mohinder remains steadfast in his desire to support his boys and give them a better future.
Now, Mohinder’s dream goes beyond survival. He’s determined to create a life where he can stand on his own feet, earning a living that allows him to provide for his sons independently. His plan is to become a food delivery rider—a role that would give him the flexibility he needs to manage his mental health while earning a steady income. It’s a chance to step away from relying on assistance and build the life he envisions, both for himself and for the children he loves.
How We’re Helping Mohinder Rebuild His life
Ray of Hope is helping Mohinder by raising $2,696.90 to cover essential costs so he can begin this new chapter:
– E-Bike: $2,519
– Theory Certificate: $10.90
– Helmet: $49
– Delivery Uniform: $118
This role would allow him to save more, visit his sons more frequently, and ultimately provide the kind of life he has always dreamed of for them. For Mohinder, this isn’t just a job—it’s a lifeline, a path toward healing and stability after years of loss and separation. With your support, Mohinder can finally take the first steps toward a stable, independent future.
