Muhammad, 37 years old, works as a technician to support his elderly parents with a nett salary of $1,400. His Malaysian dad who was residing in Malaysia had his first stroke 13 years ago. As a result, he has been unable to work to support himself. Unfortunately, he has been unable to seek formal assistance to help with his daily living expenses back home. Muhammad’s Singaporean mum, used to travel frequently to care for her bedridden spouse. Muhammad then made the decision to bring his dad to Singapore so that he could take care of him together with his mum.

Some time early this year, Muhammad’s dad suffered a relapse and is fully on tube feeding now. Muhammad told us that while it has not been easy supporting his dad’s medical needs due to his residential status, it is his responsibility to support his elderly parents. Since his dad’s relapse, the family has also incurred debts with the hospital amounting to $4,005.65. Although the hospital has granted the family with an instalment plan over a year, the sole breadwinner shared that he has been struggling to cope with all the payments that he needs to make at the end of every month.

Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,952 ($492 x 6 months) to help the sole breadwinner defray his expenses for the following:

• Dad’s medical expenses (Ensure milk supply and diapers) – $158 per month
• Instalment payment to the hospital – $334 per month
