What happened to Natasha?
26 year-old Natasha and her 29 year-old husband, Firdaus, are working towards owning their own home. With little to no support from their extended family, the couple only has themselves to rely on. They live in a two-room rental flat with their 3 month-old son, with Natasha’s elder sister and her family.Â
Firdaus was working as a Delivery Attendant, earning approximately $1,700 each month. He continued to experience severe pain on his right shoulder after an accident in 2015, relying on painkillers to manage it. He also experienced frequent dislocations on his shoulder due to the nature of his work. The latest episode in July this year compromised his ability to work and led to his eventual resignation, causing a total loss of the family’s income. Â
How can you help?
Your generous support of $345.20 would support the family for 6 months. This will cover baby’s milk and diaper costs and help their transport expenses as Natasha has started to seek employment. More significantly, it will buy the family much needed time to sort out their housing matters.

Housing has been a tremendous stressor for Natasha through the years, being fraught with hurdles to securing permanent shelter for the family. She has made numerous appeals to HDB in the midst of her application for a HDB rental unit, while relying on her sister’s compassion to allow Natasha’s family of 3 to share a cramped 2-room HDB unit with her own family of 5. Natasha shares that the ordeal caused many sleepless nights and weighed heavily on her shoulders. Due to her caregiving role and tight finances, she has not been on regular follow-up for polycystic ovary syndrome and severe back pain from childbirth.
Having resigned from his work just a few weeks ago, Firdaus feels tremendous stress in providing for his family. He is currently on close follow-up at the hospital, in hopes of getting better to continue providing for his wife and son. He is unable to work for the next three months while he is being referred to orthopedics for further management of his shoulder condition.
The couple worries about not having an income, especially when the assistance they receive cannot cover their daily expenses. Â
*Natasha is receiving social assistance.
