Our commitment is to preserve the natural world of Singapore, to honour its beauty and diversity, and to ensure that future generations may inherit a planet teeming with life, wonder, and possibility. All this possible with your generous donations to ensure we can continue to do all we do. We have been approved for Tote Board’s Enhanced Fund-raising Programme, and right now, we qualify for dollar-for-dollar matching funds with every donation we receive for this Gala celebration! This donation drive is part of our Gala Luncheon which will be held on 12 October 2024 (Sat) in Singapore Island Country Club. We aim to run several digital fundraising campaigns on our social media channels as well as with partner organisations to celebrate our 70th Anniversary.
About Nature Society Singapore
In 2024, Nature Society Singapore celebrates 70 years of conserving Singapore’s habitats and biodiversity. Established in 1954 as the Singapore Branch of Malayan Nature Society, we came into existence even before Singapore’s independence, and have had an equally colourful and rewarding journey! For our very first Gala celebration, NSS will host donors and members to a sit down meal as well as a slideshow of what NSS has achieved in Singapore and the region, in the last 70years! We continue to stand united in our commitment to be Singapore’s leading advocate of biodiversity and habitats. With our evidence-based approach and partnerships with agencies, peers, and corporates, we lead habitat and biodiversity conservation in Singapore, and with partners in the region and we are keen to showcase how we have consistently achieved this since our inception. Through engagement, education, advocacy, and research, we inspire and enable people to take action towards a sustainable and biodiverse planet. Our commitment is to preserve the natural world of Singapore, to honour its beauty and diversity, and to ensure that future generations may inherit a planet teeming with life, wonder, and possibility. All this possible with your generous donations to ensure we can continue to do all we do. We have been approved for Tote Board’s Enhanced Fund-raising Programme, and right now, we qualify for dollar-for-dollar matching funds with every donation we receive for the Gala! We hope this campaign can raise awareness for all we do and encourage more members and volunteers to join the cause. In the last decade, we have developed and sustained several key programmes with the help of general donors and volunteers.
● In 2007, the Marine Conservation Group started a conservation effort to rescue and monitor horseshoe crabs. In 2009, a census made its first attempt in mapping our two horseshoe crab species in Singapore. Being an IUCN member, NSS will be hosting the 5th IUCN Horseshoe Crab conference in Jun 2024 with generoussupport from Resorts World Sentosa and other generous donors.
● In 2018, Every Singaporean a Naturalist (ESN) was launched in collaboration with BirdLife International and HSBC and today is co-funded with Mandai Nature. This flagship citizen science programme has now reached 62 schools, impacting over 3,000 students. We have also successfully trained these students to contribute over 7,600 observations, spanning across 435 species into the iNaturalist platform where you can record, share, and discuss your observations of nature. With your continued support, this programme aims to go beyond schools and reach grassroots communities in every neighbourhood within the next 5 years.
● In 2022, the NSS Rewilding Project was launched in collaboration with the National Parks Board under the OneMillionTrees movement. This Project aims to create and provide a continuous canopy over the Rail Corridor to improve habitat connectivity, while engaging volunteers and community partners to bring people closer to nature. To date, this project has planted over 174 saplings, across 26 native tree species while engaging more than 110 volunteers. With your continued support, this programme aims to expand the rewilding sites to more locations across the island to connect more green spaces in Singapore.
● In addition to all the above, we have conducted countless walks and talks and workshops for members, students and members of the public with the intent to bring everyone closer to nature and to help nurture the next generation of environmental stewards. Please do contribute to help us celebrate a milestone of dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the cause of nature conservation. This Gala, as we reflect on 70 years of conservation success, let us continue to dedicate ourselves to the noble task that lies before us, knowing that with passion, perseverance, and solidarity, anything is possible
