Pasar Glamour Art Aid Update

Launched on 7 April 2020, the Pasar Glamour Art Aid campaign raised over S$136,000 in less than a month. The original target of raising S$100,000 in donations was achieved within the first three days of the campaign, thanks to an overwhelming show of support from our donors. As the fundraised amount has exceeded expectations, the campaign is no longer receiving donations at this time.

Of the total amount raised, S$25,000 was donated directly by Pasar Glamour from monies previously raised through our 2019 pre-loved charity sale . The other S$111,000 were gifts from staunch supporters of the Singapore arts scene, as well as public donations received through charitable crowdfunding platform, Ray of Hope.

We are grateful and encouraged that there are many people in Singapore who feel it is important to support the arts industry at this time. Our heartfelt thanks to all our donors, and the many artists and celebrities, who helped to promote the cause on social media through the #helpperformingarts challenge. Thank you for making a difference!

Special thanks to the Ray of Hope team, who were immensely helpful in providing us with the necessary administrative support. We chose to collaborate with Ray of Hope for their knowledge and experience in supporting the less privileged, and because they are the only crowdfunding platform where 100% of all donations go to their beneficiaries.

About Art Aid applications

Pasar Glamour Art Aid received 179 applications in total. Of this, 151 applications were successful (83%), and a total of S$75,500 has been disbursed. Amongst the successful applicants, 79% are freelance or self-employed arts workers in the performing arts sector, while 15% also engage in some part-time work. Almost 50% of our recipients have dependents who rely on their freelance income.

Based on the responses of our recipients, about 41% work in the theatre, 28% in music and 26% in dance. These include a sizeable number who work across multiple art forms, such as theatre technicians, production crew, and lighting and sound designers.

As there are still funds remaining for Art Aid, Pasar Glamour intends to open a second round of grant applications for those who either missed the earlier deadline, or who have lost jobs in the later half of this year. The announcement will be made on Pasar Glamour’s website (www.pasarglamour.com) and on our Facebook page. Do follow us and watch out for it.

We believe public confidence in attending mass entertainment events is not going to return quickly. It is likely that performing venues may continue to face strict restrictions even after the Circuit breaker period, which means job opportunities for freelancers in the arts could be severely reduced. The performing arts will continue to need your support, and we hope you will consider donating to a local arts organisation to help them through this challenging period.

With much gratitude,

Janice, Petrina and Pam

Co-founders, Pasar Galmour
