Ray of Hope is raising $3,840 ($640 x 6 months) to alleviate Mdm Rahimah’s financial pressures while she recuperates.  

41-year-old Mdm Rahimah is a mother of three children, aged 19, 18 and 12. She shared with our case workers that she and her daughters were physically abused by her then-husband. After years of emotional and mental stress, it was still a difficult decision for Mdm Rahimah to file for divorce.

“I was not allowed to have much contact with my friends or relatives. I had no one to turn to when I was feeling fearful. I just wanted to protect my children.”

Mdm Rahimah’s ex-husband was the family’s breadwinner. After their divorce in 2019, Mdm Rahimah worked as a cashier to support her children. However, she had to leave her job because of a health condition.

Mdm Rahimah was diagnosed with severe Hidradenitis Suppurativa, a long-term skin condition that causes abscesses on various parts of the body. In July, she underwent eight surgeries to extract the abscesses. However, the pus could not be fully removed and this has affected some of her activities of daily living, including toileting. Mdm Rahimah currently uses a stoma bag and diapers until her next medical review later this month (December 2021).

With her family’s SSO assistance coming to an end, Mdm Rahimah is worried about their finances as well as her upcoming medical bills.
