What happened to Rahman? 

On 27 May 2022, Rahman suffered a devastating injury when a 2-meters tall marble slab unexpectedly split into half, leaving him to fall on his back with the lower half of his body stuck underneath the slab. This left him severely injured and unable to work. His MRI results showed that he had thoracic spondylosis, the tearing of the vertebrae. Rahman shared that he experiences stiffness and pain in his back and numbness in his lower body. This tragic incident has not only left Rahman grappling with excruciating physical pain but also stripped him of his only source of income, leaving his family in dire straits.

Although Rahman is still under MC, he is no longer able to receive any MC wages as his work injury case has reached the one-year mark. Since then, Rahman has been struggling for his own livelihood while worrying about his family back in Bangladesh.

Help alleviate Rahman’s mounting financial worries and cover his living expenses with your donation. The campaign aims to raise a monthly target of $720 for five months while he focuses on recuperating and for MOM assessment of his injuries to conclude so that he can receive his Work Injury Compensation. 46-year-old Rahman is from Bangladesh and is married with 4 children between the ages of 4 to 18. He was employed as a General Worker under a new company in March 2022, specializing in natural stones and flooring tiles. Rahman was earning approximately $1,100 a month, which allowed him to remit the bulk of his salary to his parents, wife and school-going children for their living and educational expenses regularly.  

“These past three months have been difficult as I couldn’t support my family. I feel so useless as a father,” shared Rahman to our case workers.

Rahman has been tremendously distressed as the family has lost their main source of income. He was recently issued medical leave till August 2023, with no income to support his family. Till this day, he still feels pain in his back and has challenges standing and walking.  Nonetheless, he hopes to recover by diligently attending his orthopedic appointments and physiotherapy to support his family once again.
