Ray of Hope would like to raise $2800 ($560 x 5 months) to help Rana with his living expenses while he waits for his employer to allow him to receive treatment timely and for MOM assessment to conclude.
Rana, 33, is a Bangladeshi Migrant worker. As an engineer, he earns a basic pay of $384. To earn an extra income, he works overtime and earns on average $650-$850. Every month, he remits around $500-$600 for his family back in Bangladesh which includes his wife and his 2 daughters.
On the 19th May 2022, he was crossing from one pump room to another using a platform when it suddenly fell through. Rana fell to the room below causing him to experience lower back pain with right radiculopathy, causing his nerve roots in the area of the spine to be damaged. Rana now faces difficulties standing and sitting for a long time.
Rana was given pain killers but the pain persisted through the night. He was subsequently referred to the hospital for his back and leg pain. Rana was given 2 months 3 days MC. During this period, his MC wages were not fully paid yet and he was unable to receive timely treatment as his employer did not give the Letter of Guarantee.
Sharing with our caseworker, the father of two feels the stress as he is unable to remit money back home to support his family. The loans he took to come to Singapore have yet to be paid as well. Rana’s family are struggling to pay for their day-to-day expenses after the accident, causing his wife to borrow money from friends everyday. Rana’s employer only started to recently provide him with food expenses. Currently he is waiting for his MC wages to be paid fully and waiting for MOM to provide and update for his compensation.
