What happened to Roy?
Roy, 65, was incarcerated 5 times since 1975. His turning point came when his daughter was born in 2010. Determined to be a good father and husband, he steered clear from vices and has since devoted his resources and time to take care of his family. He has exhausted all means to bring his Indonesian wife and daughter to Singapore. Hence, his last resort was to relocate them to Batam, a location easily accessed by ferry and to cope with living expenses. He visits them every weekend, rain or shine. Post-covid inflation has left him struggling to keep up with the weekly ferry expenses.

How can you help?
Your support of $300 a month will enable Roy to continue visiting his family at Batam on a weekly basis. He started family late in life and he knows time is running out for him. He hopes to spend as much with his family, especially with his teenage daughter.

Find out more/Appeal from Roy:
Since 2010, Roy made many attempts to apply PR/Citizenship for his Indonesian wife and daughter but all in vain. Due to his past incarcerations, Roy received a meagre salary back then which was insufficient for him to provide food and shelter for his family in Singapore. Despite the circumstances, he continued to work hard with dedication and constantly sought help from a Family Service Centre to reunite with his family. The social worker who has known him for the past 12 years has been writing letters of appeal to a Foundation to support his commitment in visiting his family weekly. This arrangement has come to an end as Roy is coming to terms with the improbability of relocating his family to Singapore.
Roy is currently working in a charity organization which helps ex-offenders. As a fundraising and Publishing Executive, he is dedicated to raise funds and engage partners for his organization to support fellow ex-offenders in their journey of rehabilitation and integration into society. His organization provides food and accommodation for him, which greatly reduces his expenses. This allows him to channel almost all his salary to his wife, mainly for the living expenses and his daughter’s school fees in Batam. Despite his frugality, he has been unable to keep up with the increased cost of the ferry round trips to Batam which has since doubled. Support Roy in his endeavours to be a loving husband and father, one who could be reliably present for his family.     Â
