Ray of Hope is raising $3,000 ($500 x 6 months) to help Selvaganapathy with his living expenses as he recovers.

Subramanian Selvaganapathy is a 28-year-old Indian general worker with experience in the construction industry. On 11th April 2022, Selvaganapathy injured his back, upper shoulder and thumb while he was at work. He was carrying a 15kg electrical trunking in a metal case down the stairs, when he slipped and fell backwards.

Selvaganapathy went for a surgery on 11th April to insert K wires that would secure his crushed thumb bone. His employer paid for the surgery. However, his thumb can no longer feel anything and he attends weekly physiotherapy sessions offered by an NGO for his injured shoulder.

Throughout his time in Singapore, Selvaganapathy worked hard to support his family in India, often working 7 days a week with regular overtime. He earned approximately $1,200 each month and remitted more than half of his salary to his family. He also received approximately $700 during his 3-month medical leave.

To work in Singapore, Selvaganapathy shared that he took up a bank loan of $8,000 to pay for his agent’s fees. He only managed to repay $1,500 before his accident.

Due to the injury, Selvaganapathy now has no other means of supporting his widowed mother and school-going sister. As his family’s sole provider, he worries that he can no longer return to the construction industry.
