They are the top athletes in the world.
But yet Singapore’s national women’s tchoukball team have had to fund themselves to win Singapore honours. Their coaches are volunteers and they have to rely on the generosity of well-wishes to continue to do the nation proud.
As former national athletes, Lenny Lim (bowling) and Ronald Susilo (badminton) know how tough it can be to motivate yourself to perform at the highest level. What more when funding to represent your country is limited and you have to invest your own money.
Fuelled by fierce dedication and a passion for the sport, our Tchoukball teams have continued to excel and bring pride to Singapore above juggling their personal lives, careers and training schedules.
In order to help the national tchoukball teams remain amongst the best in the world, Lim and Susilo are initiating a campaign with the Tchoukball Association of Singapore to raise funds for the sport in Singapore.
Singapore’s women and men (ranked 3rd in the world) will be competing at the 10th World Tchoukball Championships in Prague from 1st to 6th August 2023.
Singapore athletes will also take part in the 2nd Asia Pacific Youth Beach Tchoukball Championship in Taiwan (17-20 August 2023), the World Youth Tchoukball Championship 2023 (13-16 July 2023) and the Southeast Asia Tchoukball 2023 (17-18 July 2023). The latter two events will be held in Singapore.
The funds raised will go towards the following expenses:
• Round-trip economy airfare between Singapore and Prague as well as Singapore to Taiwan for all athletes in the men’s, women’s and youth teams. Airfares this year are expected to cost more due post pandemic travel price surge.
• Accommodation for all athletes during the duration of the championships in Prague and Taiwan.
• Compulsory competition participation fees for the 10th World Tchoukball Championships and 2nd Asia Pacific Youth Beach Tchoukball Championship.
• All remaining amounts will go towards other events and activities as required by the association and its athletes such as their participation and hosting for the World Youth Tchoukball Championships and the Southeast Asia Tchoukball Championships in 2023.

About Tchoukball
Tchoukball is a non-contact sport invented in Switzerland in the late 1960s by Dr Herman Brandt and is one of the fastest team sports in the world today. Designed as a ‘sport for all’, tchoukball can be played by anyone with any shape, size, gender, culture and background, with wheelchair and beach tchoukball also being played with modified rules. Usually played on a 27m x 17m indoor courts with a frame on each side and a 3m semi-circle marked the forbidden zone, teams can score on any side of the frame as long as the ball clears the semi-circle without being caught by the opposite team.
