What happened to Shahidul?

On 12th November 2022, Shahidul was removing the filter from the cooling tower on the rooftop when he fell from a height of 2 metres. He lost consciousness from the fall impact, fracturing his neck and damaging the nerves in his back. 

Due to the damaged nerves, Shahidul relies on a walking stick for support. While doctors have advised Shahidul to undergo surgery for his neck, they have cautioned that the same procedure could risk paralysis for the sole breadwinner. 

Shahidul remains torn if he should opt for surgery, as he cannot afford any adverse outcomes that would prevent him from providing for his family in Bangladesh.

How can you help?

Cover Shahidul’s living expenses ($320 x 6 months) while he focuses on attending weekly physiotherapy sessions in a bid to regain his health and ability to work again. Funds raised will be transferred to the worker directly.

38-year-old Shahidul is from Bangladesh and is married with a son under the age of 2. After arriving in Singapore in February 2022, he was employed as a General Worker doing maintenance work in a cooling tower. Shahidul was earning approximately $1,100 a month, which allowed him to remit the bulk of his salary to his parents and school-going siblings for their living and educational expenses regularly, keeping around $450 for himself.  

Shahidul was issued a year-long medical leave, with no income to support his family. Shahidul has been tremendously distressed as the family has lost their main source of income. He hopes to recover by attending weekly physiotherapy sessions offered by an NGO and is determined to support his family once again.
