Ray of Hope is raising $2,100 ($350 x 6 months) to help Shakil Kabir with he and his family’s living expenses.
Shakil Kabir arrived in Singapore in September 2017, in hopes of alleviating his family’s financial burden back home in Bangladesh. His father had suffered a stroke in 2012 while his mother has diabetes. Because of this, there have been much stress and pressure to make enough money to care for his parents as well as his entire family. However, just 4 years later, Shakil met with an accident on the job. In October 2021, he was transporting a rebar mesh about 6 metres by 3 metres wide with three other colleagues. His colleague had suddenly released the mesh, causing all the weight to fall on him. After several injections and an MRI scan, the doctor discovered that he had suffered a slipped disc and a muscle tear in his shoulders.
Shakil is married with a 1 year-old daughter. Prior to his injury, Shakil was the only one of his 4 siblings to be working and earning an income. His two elder brothers who are both married, have not been working as one is still waiting for a visa to work in Singapore while the other is suffering from a mental condition. His 21 year-old sister is currently waiting to go into University. With medical bills to pay for his sickly parents, milk and diapers for his baby and school fees to fund for his youngest sister, Shakil would be left with a substantial debt if he continues to remain unfit for work.
