Shar Shar came to Singapore in 2019 at the young age of 24 to provide a better life for her parents in Myanmar. For three years, Shar Shar was taking care and looking after her employer’s home with love and kindness. However, things took a turn for the worse when she was admitted to the hospital in May 2022. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and severely inflamed lungs (ARDS) due to a virus in her brain called HHV6.Â
Ray of Hope is raising *$88,171.15 to support Shar Shar with her medical bills in Singapore. Her medical bills are standing at almost $89k as of 8 June 2022, an interim bill retrieved from the hospital.
27-year-old Shar Shar is the sole provider to her parents and has been a great help to her employer’s family. As a domestic helper, she was earning $530 monthly and would remit the bulk of her salary to support his family’s living expenses.Â
In late April 2022, Shar Shar was experiencing frequent vomiting and abdominal pain. After multiple medical assessments, she was subsequently diagnosed with pneumonia which subsequently caused her lungs to be severely inflamed. She was admitted to the ICU and her breathing had to be assisted with a ventilator. After 9 days, she was transferred to a general ward as her condition has stabilised. However, she is still very weak and is not fit to travel back to Myanmar yet.
With no income to support his medical treatment and his family, Shar Shar is under immense stress as the family has lost their main source of income. As a foreigner, her medical bills have been snowballing as she is not eligible to receive any subsidised treatment. Despite her employer’s efforts to supplement the insurance payouts with our out of pocket, they are unable to pay the full interim bill. They have relentlessly approached multiple sources to aid her medical bills, but to no avail other than her insurance.Â
*Medical fees are as of 8 June 2022. As the medical fees are likely to increase, the campaign target will be increased once the updated medical bills are received.
