Background
Mr Imran*, 52 years old, is a father to 5 children between the ages of 6 years old to 12 years old. He is currently suffering from chronic diabetes and high cholesterol. Due to his chronic diabetes, he is currently medically unfit for work until March 2020. During this time, he has to undergo numerous medical appointments in order to prevent his diabetes from worsening.
The Struggle
Mr Imran used to work as a security guard and was previously earning more than S$2,000 a month. With his income, he was able to provide for his family. However, due to his chronic diabetes, frequent medical appointments and being certified medically unfit for work, he was terminated from his job. He is currently unable to work due to his chronic medical condition and now struggles to provide for his family.
Faced with mounting bills and having to provide for his family, Mr Imran and his wife borrowed from multiple licensed moneylenders. The interest has now increased tremendously as they are unable to repay back the licensed moneylenders on time and they have been to Mr Imran’s house multiple times seeking repayment.
His wife, who is a PR Citizen, is currently undergoing counselling in order to help her cope with the current stressful situation and is unable to work at the moment.
