What happened to Mdm Thana?
After her divorce in August 2022, Mdm Thana had to raise her 4-year-old son on her own. It was a lonely and challenging journey to get back on her own feet but she managed to pull through and secure a job as a porter at a hospital. Her triumph was short lived as she was diagnosed with SI Joint Dysfunction, just as her life was picking up again. Unable to do the heavy lifting that her job requires, Mdm Thana eventually had to leave her job, with no savings and income to support her family.
Mdm Thana is currently seeking remote work that gives her the flexibility to care for her son while she seeks treatment for her medical condition.

Mdm Thana, 32, lives with her 4-year-old son in a 2-room rental flat. After her divorce in August 2022, Mdm Thana was working as a porter at a hospital. She was working for a few months and earned a salary of $1,140 a month. With her salary, she was able to provide her son with a simple and comfortable life. Unfortunately, she was unable to continue after she was diagnosed with SI Joint Dysfunction in March this year. SI Joint Dysfunction is a painful condition that affects one or both sacroiliac joints which can cause pain and stiffness in her lower back, and the pain spreads to her lower body occasionally.
Daily life has been emotionally strenuous for Mdm Thana. The divorce and recent medical diagnosis has left her feeling unmoored as she adapts to this new chapter of her life on her own. This has affected her self-esteem greatly. In addition, her ex-husband has been inconsistent with his maintenance.
“My only wish is to raise my son well in an environment where he can grow. I have to move on for the sake of my son.” shared Mdm Thana to our Case Workers.
Despite the trying times, Mdm Thana is determined to see herself feel more settled and empowered, ready to take on bigger responsibilities and to support the household. With your donation, Mdm Thana hopes to seek remote working opportunities so that she has the flexibility to care for her son and focus on her treatment. Mdm Thana started with physiotherapy sessions recently and will have a consultation with the orthopedic specialist next month to explore other treatment plans such as a non-invasive surgery.
