The Struggle

39-year-old Noraisah, who used to work as an adjunct secondary school teacher with an income of $1,200 per month, faced her first obstacle when her contract was not converted to full-time employment. This not only meant unemployment, it also marked the start of the increased living arrears that she now needs to shoulder.

Noraisah who is divorced since April 2017, has two school-going children aged 12 and 9. Being the sole breadwinner of the family, Noraisah has been seeking employment all this while so that she can continue supporting her family. To make matters worse, Noraisah’s elderly mum suffers from a list of chronic conditions including bleeding in her brain, anemia, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

The single mum is struggling financially due to the severity of her mum’s condition which makes it difficult to seek employment.

Help Needed – Give Hope

Noraisah’s mum first suffered a stroke way back in 2009 and was recovering well since then. Unfortunately, she was hospitalized after a bad fall in September 2018 while Noraisah was at work. Since her fall, the elderly experiences frequent giddiness. Subsequent checks revealed that she has been suffering from several blood clots in her brain.

With the entire family surviving on $960 a month with minimal public assistance and spousal maintenance, the family’s finance is always a huge issue to Noraisah. With some monetary help from her extended family, Noraisah has managed to engage a helper to take care of her aged mum so that she can get back to work. However, her mum is currently awaiting assessment before she can be transferred to a daycare centre.

Noraisah told us that sometimes, she is on the verge of breaking down as she is extremely helpless about the situation that she is in. The single mum is appealing for a little kindness from you that would give her hope to hang on.

ROHI would like to raise $1,500 to help Noraisah defray her groceries expenses for the time being, until her aged mum has been assessed for her suitability to be transferred to a daycare centre. Afterwhich, the remaining funds will go towards the daycare fees, estimated at around $500 per month after subsidy.
