Yousuf’s family has always been his priority. Back in Bangladesh, Yousuf was supporting his 80-year-old mother, his wife and their school-going daughter. After arriving in Singapore in 2014, he was employed as a shipyard worker, earning approximately $1,200 a month, which allowed him to remit $900 back to his family regularly.
In December 2021, while doing ship maintenance, Yousuf was descending from a ladder when he missed a step and fell 3-meters. His fall caused him to severely injure his spine. He was diagnosed with an L4-L5 slipped disc on top of the acute injuries he sustained. Unfortunately, Yousuf shared that his employer has refused and delayed to provide his Letter of Guarantee (LOG) for a few of his consultations and scans. This resulted in a delay in his consultations and treatments.
Although Yousuf has completed his physiotherapy sessions, he still experiences pain and could be seen limping to get around. This limits him as he continues to experience persistent pain in his lower back and led, affecting his mobility and his ability to resume work. Yousuf shared that he is unsure how long it would take for him to fully recover. Despite the hardships and pain he faced, he has been diligently continuing his physiotherapy exercises in his dorm in hopes to recover quickly.
Yousuf is currently awaiting the results of his injury assessment and work injury compensation claim.
