MOVEMENT FOR MENTAL HEALTH CONVERSATIONS
The campaign running over the next year has been carefully crafted to underscore the symbiotic relationship between physical wellness and mental health. This campaign utilizes the concept of “movement” in a twofold manner. Firstly, it encompasses various physical activities to holistically enhance participants’ overall physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Secondly, it also signals a larger social movement intended to combat the societal stigma surrounding mental health issues, while promoting awareness and accessibility to supportive resources.
We have decided to utilise sports and engaging activities create an informal environment that encourages open interaction and communication, fostering an atmosphere conducive to discussing mental health, a key pillar to what we do as an organisation. This also lowers the barriers of those who may want to get involved or informed about mental health by involving a more casual and enjoyable environment. Teamwork inherent in sports cultivates trust, promoting honest conversations about mental struggles. The endorphins released through physical exertion also encourage positive discussions about mental
health. Experiences from sports, such as resilience in the face of adversity, serve as metaphors for mental health challenges, normalizing such conversations.
Furthermore, shared experiences in physical activities provide a non-verbal language for expressing empathy, making it easier to discuss personal mental struggles. Thus, sports and activities effectively reduce communication barriers and normalize dialogue about mental health.
“Movements for Mental Health” strives to create a culture where mental health is prioritized and celebrated. By embracing physical activity, we aim to foster a community that supports mental wellness while challenging the negative perceptions associated with mental health.
All funds raised by this fund-raising project will be distributed to Mental Health Film Festival Singapore(MHFFS) to support and manage operating costs such as staffing and build reserves.
