44-year-old Dianchuan is the sole breadwinner to his family of six. Sandwiched to provide for his parents, wife and two school-going children back in China, he has been working as a carpenter in Singapore since 2013. However, things took a turn for the worse when Dianchuan was diagnosed with cerebral ischemia, a condition which causes him to have mild strokes, in February 2022. He has not been able to work since the diagnosis. 

Ray of Hope is raising $4,000 to support Dianchuan and his family for the next 4 months ($1000 x 4 months). This will help his family with their living expenses as he continues to receive treatment.

Dianchuan is from China and is married with two children aged 14 and 16. He is the sole provider to the family including his two elderly parents. As a carpenter, he was earning a basic salary of $800. He would often pick up overtime shifts to at least earn $1,200 and would remit the bulk of his salary to support his family’s living expenses.

In December 2021, Dianchuan experienced fainting spells and developed chronic headaches and nauseousness which affected his daily livelihood. When he visited the hospital in February 2022, his medical report revealed that he has cerebral ischemia, a condition that occurs when there is not enough blood flow to the brain. He was subsequently hospitalised for a minor stroke. Since then, Dianchuan has not been working as it is unsafe for him to do so as he continues to experience fainting spells.

With no income to support his medical treatment and his family, Dianchuan is under immense stress as the family has lost their main source of income. He mentioned that the situation at home is worsening. His parents both suffer from cancer and his wife has had a benign tumor for the past two years. The medical expenses have been putting a strain on the family’s savings. The resilient father intends to seek treatment back in China as he will not be able to afford institutional care in Singapore.
