Nazir, 36, came to Singapore to work in reclamation under the marine sector. On average, he earns around $900 monthly which includes overtime pay. Nazir works almost everyday and he earns the money to remit back home for his family. However in June 2022, Nazir was diagnosed with stage 1 thyroid cancer and the doctor advised him to undergo surgery. The operation will cost around $17,000, which his employer is unwilling to pay.

Ray of hope would like to raise 548,600 Taka (approximately 7,947SGD) to support Nazir’s treatment with his Thyroid Cancer in Bangladesh. Without the assistance of his employer, Nazir is struggling to pay for his treatment.

Nazir is from Bangladesh and is married with a child of the age of 7. He is the sole breadwinner for his family as his wife takes care of their child. Nazir works to remit mostly for his family and he keeps a small amount of his salary for himself. 

In June 2020, Nazir went for a medical assessment and his CT results showed that his tonsil was swollen. However, he did not experience any pain. 

On 21st June 2022, his swelling started to worsen and it was painful. Nazir had difficulty eating and drinking. His throat also felt dry. The doctor subsequently diagnosed him with stage 1 thyroid cancer and had recommended an operation for him but it would cost around $17,000 in Singapore. Unfortunately, his employer was not willing to assist. Nazir has insurance that can cover his medical costs of up to $20,000 but his employer was not willing to go through the process. Nazir’s work project had already ended and his employer was eager to send him home.

Nazir has gone home since 27th June 2022 and he shared with our case worker that he is worried about his family. Being the sole breadwinner, there will be no one to care for his wife and son. Your donation can give hope to him and allow him to receive the medical treatment he needs!
