Ray of hope is raising $2,250 ($450 x 5 months) to support Mr Fu for the next 5 months. This will help him with his living expenses as he continues on his road to recovery.  

Mr Fu is from China and is married with two children. As the family’s main breadwinner, Mr Fu has been working in Singapore since 2012 to support his parents, his wife, his son, his daughter-in-law and his granddaughter. He earns approximately $2,200 a month working as a general construction worker, and would conscientiously remit $1,800 a month for his family’s living expenses. 

However, things took a calamitous turn for Mr Fu on the 13th of January 2022. While on the job, Mr Fu was crossing the work site on an unstable plank, it gave way, causing him to fall one level below. After being sent to the hospital, it was found that the fall left him with an injured spine. 

Mr Fu had to go through an operation to realign his spine, which required metal pieces to be inserted into his third and fourth vertebrae. The operation was successful, and Mr Fu is currently attending physiotherapy twice a month as well as frequent counselling and befriending sessions to assist with his recovery journey.

After his medical leave ended last year, he is no longer being compensated for his injury and is waiting to return home to China. While the wounds have healed, doctors advised that he would no longer be able to carry heavy loads and is no longer medically fit for construction work. The loss of his income places him under immense stress as not only is he able to provide for his family in China, he is unable to afford his living expenses.  Funds raised will allow Mr Fu to focus on the recovery process while he waits for his doctor’s approval to fly back to China as soon as possible.
