A Mother Focused on Her Children

Mdm Jayasudha is currently three months pregnant with her third child. Most of her days are centered around her two daughters — making sure they get to school, attend therapy, eat well, and feel safe at home.

Her eldest girl is seven. She is non-verbal and attends a SPED school, where she is learning to communicate in her own ways.

Her younger daughter, five, is currently attending speech therapy and is awaiting assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She, too, needs additional guidance and consistency as she works through developmental milestones.

Both girls need close supervision and steady routines. Their days are shaped around school drop-offs, therapy appointments, meal times, and helping them settle when they feel overwhelmed. Jayasudha and her husband have always been hands-on parents. “They depend on us for everything,” she says quietly. “We want them to feel secure.”

When Work Suddenly Stopped

Earlier this year, both parents lost their jobs.

Jayasudha was laid off due to company restructuring. Not long after, she found out she was pregnant. Complications have made this a high-risk pregnancy, and her doctor has placed her on bed rest. Returning to work is not an option for now.

Her husband was also laid off from his cleaner role earlier this year. He currently experiences mobility-related medical issues, which have made securing new employment difficult. While searching for new work, he has stepped fully into caregiving — sending the girls to school, attending therapy sessions, preparing meals, and keeping the household running while Jayasudha focuses on her pregnancy.

With limited extended family support, the couple has been managing everything on their own.

Still Showing Up Every Day

Even in this uncertain period, their daughters’ needs remain the priority.

Their seven-year-old continues attending school consistently. Their five-year-old continues speech therapy and is moving through the assessment process so she can access early intervention support if needed. The parents keep track of appointments carefully, knowing how important consistency is for their children’s development.

They have approached community organisations for help and are stretching every dollar they have. Groceries are budgeted tightly. Household supplies are purchased only when absolutely necessary.

What We Are Raising Funds For

Ray of Hope is raising $2,443.20* ($400 per month) to provide grocery vouchers for six months.

These vouchers will go directly toward food and daily necessities for the family — rice, fresh produce, milk, diapers, toiletries, and basic household supplies. For a household with two young children with additional needs and a baby on the way, these everyday items add up quickly.

What This Support Will Mean

This assistance will not solve every challenge the family is facing. Jayasudha still needs to focus on her pregnancy and recovery. Her husband is still seeking stable employment that fits within his physical limitations.

But reliable grocery support for six months will ease immediate financial pressure. It will mean fewer anxious calculations at the checkout counter. It will mean the children’s meals remain steady and nutritious. It will mean one less thing to worry about while they prepare for the arrival of their third child.

Your support will help give this growing family the breathing room they need to care for their children and prepare for the months ahead.
