Ray of Hope’s Education Giving Circle (EGC) was created through a seed donation of $15,660 by Janet Ng Lim Seong’s family to carry on her life’s mission of supporting children and youth on their academic journey.

The EGC is a commitment to building and inspiring a community to support students from low-income families living in Singapore. Singaporean and non-Singaporean students are eligible, and must be nominated by their social worker or school welfare officer. The Fund aims to alleviate financial burdens so that students can concentrate on their studies better. This includes support for children who may require intervention programmes.

We envision a future where every child in Singapore can attain a basic education.

Your donation isn’t just money. It is the gift of education for students like:

Abraham

9-year old Abraham has waited a long time to start school.

Abraham is an American citizen and initially lived with his natural father in the United States. However, in 2021, Abraham was placed in foster care because his natural father was incarcerated. The Child Protective Services in Dallas had ruled that the sole custody of Abraham would be given to his Singaporean mother, Lynn, in August 2023.

As a Long-term Visit Pass holder with developmental needs, he was unable to be placed in mainstream primary school until a psychological assessment was completed. With community sponsorship, Abraham started school in July 2024. Nonetheless, the family is not out of the woods. Lynn is a single parent bereft of family support and works as a hospital porter.

Your donation will ensure Abraham gets to stay in school.

Ramadhani

Ramadhani, an aspiring early childhood educator, faces a critical challenge in her pursuit of higher education. Despite calling Singapore home since age four, her foreign student status leaves her ineligible for most government assistance and education subsidies. Her family of eight, supported solely by her father’s $1,000 monthly income as a private hire driver, struggles to afford her polytechnic fees of $6,049.40 per semester.

Without financial support, Ramadhani risks expulsion from her Early Childhood Education program, potentially forcing her to leave behind the only home she’s ever known.  Your contribution will not only keep a family together but also invest in a future educator who will impact countless young lives.

Amir and his siblings

Amir is the eldest of four siblings and should be completing his O’ levels this year.

Yet, high educational arrears have disqualified him from attending school since the start of 2024. The gritty teenager has not given up hope and has been committed to self-studying and checking in with friends from school to keep up with the curriculum.

He looks forward to completing his education so that he can help his parents support the rest of his siblings through school.

What is a Giving Circle?

A Giving Circle (GC) is a pooled fund created to meet the needs of a specific group of people or for a specific need. When an individual campaign falls short of its crowdfunding goal, funds from the relevant Giving Circle are used to support the campaign. To ensure fairness, the specific amount is determined by Ray of Hope’s internal policies for each Giving Circle.

How can you help?

The GC is your opportunity to be part of a cause you deeply care for. By donating any amount, you help provide children and youth with the resources they need to pursue their educational goals and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

As a donor, you will also get updates on how Ray of Hope utilised the funds in the EGC and how your contributions have helped. You may also receive an invite to special events, where you can meet some of the clients you have supported.

Your Impact, Guaranteed:

  • 100% of your donation goes directly to beneficiaries
  • Our caseworkers thoroughly vet every case
  • You’ll receive updates on how your contribution changes lives

Your gift, no matter the size, has the power to transform someone’s future. Together, we can build a community where every child has the gift of education.

Be the change. Give Hope Today.
