A Life Interrupted: Mr. Perez’s Story

Imagine working hard your entire life to support your family, only to have it all taken away by a sudden health crisis. Mr. Perez, a 61-year-old former security personnel, is facing significant challenges after suffering a stroke in September 2021. Despite his own difficulties, he has been trying to support his 83-year-old mother while being unemployed and in need of assistance himself.

Conquering Fears: Recovering from a Stroke and Multiple Falls

The Challenges:

• Mr. Perez suffered a stroke in September 2021, which has impacted his ability to work. He suffered weakness on the right side of his body, which is his dominant side, impacting his ability to grip anything firmly in his hand and walk steadily. Hence, even simple daily tasks such as writing and eating proved to be a challenge for Mr. Perez.
• In early 2023, due to his unsteady gait, he fell twice, further weakening his right side and fracturing his shoulder.
• Mr Perez feels inadequate and lacks the confidence to return to employment. He believes that he needs to improve his grasp and writing, as well as overcome his fear of commuting on public transportation to return to work.

Providing Stability: Raising $1,200 for 6 Months of Living Expenses

Ray of Hope aims to provide Mr. Perez with financial assistance and support services to help him manage his living expenses and work towards his goal of re-entering employment by September 2025. The funds raised will cover six months of his living expenses at $200 per month, totalling $1,200. 

Additionally, we will connect Mr. Perez with an organisation that offers case management for individuals who have suffered from stroke, providing him with constructive support in achieving his objectives.
