When Nada, just 23 years old, found herself facing a storm of challenges, she refused to let life’s hardships define her. A devoted mother of two, Nada has always put her children first, even sacrificing her own treasures to protect their future. “I sold my gold jewelry gifted by my husband during our wedding so that I don’t have to use my children’s baby bonus money – that is theirs,” she said with calm determination.

Nada’s resilience shines through her actions. At one point, she juggled two jobs to make ends meet, leaving her with little time for her children. She worked both an office-hour job and a shift job, with her short break in between barely enough for a quick bite while traveling. Despite her tough circumstances, Nada hesitated to seek help – “You are still young; you can still work. There are many others who need it more than you,” she thought, feeling undeserving and putting her own needs aside. 

A Family Facing Temporary Separation

Now, life has dealt her a new challenge. Nada’s husband, Hairuz, is due to serve a sentence after being caught riding a motorbike without a license while trying to earn an income as a Grab rider. The impending separation weighs heavily on the couple. “My wife has been through a lot. She is very strong,” Hairuz says with admiration. “I just want to get this over and done with, serve my time, and then focus on my family.”

For Nada, this moment has shifted her perspective. With two young children to care for and without Hairuz by her side, she is learning to lean on her community. A friend introduced her to Ray of Hope, and she finally reached out, determined to change their circumstances. 

How We’re Helping Nada

Ray of Hope is working with Nada to connect her to formal agencies for sustainable support while providing immediate relief. We aim to fundraise a total of $2,811 to assist the family for the next 3 months: 

• interim living needs ($786/month)
• children’s nutritional and diaper needs ($151/month)
