Mdm Revathi came to Singapore from India in 2009 on an Employment Pass. She is a single mother to 13 y/o Yuvanesh, who is a Dependent Pass holder.

She is currently employed as an admin staff, however her company has defaulted on her salary for the past 6 months, since January. She is meant to receive $3,500 a month. Due to this, she is unable to meet her and her son’s basic needs. Her rent of $1,500 is due for this month, however she does not have the funds to pay her landlord. Although her tenancy contract ends in July, the landlord has said that she is unable to use her deposit to make payment. As it is also difficult for an Indian single mother with a child to find places to rent in Singapore, she also wishes to extend her contract with her landlord, which he is open to with the condition that she makes payment for the outstanding rent. She has been given a verbal final warning that rent needs to be paid by this Sunday (6 July) at the latest. This is causing her significant distress and insomnia.

She has considered to return to India with her son as a last resort. However, she is extremely reluctant to as she wants to pursue her legal case for her withheld salary, and does not want to waste her son’s efforts studying for Cambridge exams later this year. With outstanding arrears of about $5,000 with the school, she is also uncertain that she will be able to withdraw her son and obtain any documentation of his education. She has no family back in India, and should she have to return, she does not have the funds for the flight ticket, and will still need funds to rent a place there. She hopes to stay in Singapore permanently.
Drawdown: To support with $1,500 emergency drawdown from Empowering Women Hope Circle to address her urgent need, threatening her and her son’s shelter.
