Help Alam Rebuild After a Life-Changing Fall
A Father’s Dream Built on Decades of Hard Work
For more than 27 years, Singapore has been home to Alam. Our little red dot is not just where he worked. It was where he poured nearly three decades of his life to build a better future for his family back in Bangladesh. Now in his 50s, Alam is a devoted husband and father to three sons aged 17, 14, and 7, all still in school. His dream as a father has always been simple: to keep working, support his children’s education, and one day return home to retire with dignity.
But in early January 2025, that dream was abruptly put on hold.
A Devastating Accident and a Fight for Dignity
On January 7, 2025, Alam’s life took a tragic turn. While on the job, he fell from a ladder, fracturing his left ankle and injuring his back and shoulder. The pain was immense, but the ordeal that followed was even harder to bear. His employer allegedly refused proper hospital treatment, threatened to send him home, and later cancelled his work permit after Alam reported the incident to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
When Alam tried to stand up for himself, his belongings, including his passport, were taken from him, leaving him vulnerable and afraid. Since then, he has been living through months of uncertainty—navigating both medical recovery and a difficult legal process.
Eight Months Without Pay and a Family Waiting Back Home
It has now been eight long months without a salary. Alam remains on medical leave, focusing on healing his injuries while borrowing money from friends and family just to survive.
“Sometimes can eat, sometimes cannot eat,” he shares quietly.
Alam’s next court hearing for salary claims is scheduled for December 2025, but the waiting period is agonizing. The cost of living in Singapore continues to rise, and it has been challenging to keep up with his expenses. Back in Bangladesh, his wife’s modest salary as a teacher can barely cover her own living needs and those of their sons, leaving no room to support Alam’s recovery here.
How You Can Help
Your donation in hopes of raising $2,670, can provide Alam with a lifeline, giving him the stability to focus on his physical recovery. Of this amount, $60 will go toward replacing his passport, while the remaining funds will support his living expenses for the next six months ($435 per month).
The campaign goal includes a 1.8% uplift to account for card processing fees incurred by payment providers.
