Support a Family Working Toward Financial Stability
What happened
Hamzah and Shaira are parents of two school-going children. For years, the family lived in a 2-room HDB rental flat. As their children grew older, the limited space became increasingly difficult to manage.
In 2025, after years of working full-time, they moved into a 3-room BTO flat. While the move provided a more suitable living environment for their children, it also came with upfront costs. The family took on loans for essential renovations and basic furnishings required to make the flat liveable.
Today, they are servicing debts exceeding $21,000.
Although both parents remain employed, a significant portion of their monthly income goes toward loan repayments, utilities, and household expenses. After these commitments, little remains for daily necessities such as groceries.
How They Are Working Toward Stability
Hamzah and Shaira have remained committed to their jobs, having worked with their respective employers for five and eight years. They have been consistent in repaying their loans and have not defaulted.
Hamzah is currently completing his final lessons for a Class 3 driving licence. Obtaining this licence will allow him to take on additional responsibilities at work and qualify for a higher salary. This step is part of the family’s plan to improve their financial position and reduce their debt burden over time.
“I always intend to save a bit of my salary,” Hamzah shared. “But after paying for the important things, I’m left with zero.”
Despite their efforts, the family continues to face short-term financial strain.
Why Support Is Needed Now
The next few months are critical. Until Hamzah’s income increases, the family remains stretched. Without support, they risk borrowing again to meet basic needs, which would further increase their financial burden.
They are not seeking help to clear their debts. Instead, they are requesting temporary support to manage daily expenses while they work toward greater financial stability.
What the Funds Will Support
Ray of Hope is raising funds to support the family’s basic living expenses, particularly groceries, over six months ($400 per month).
This short-term assistance will help ease immediate pressure and reduce the likelihood of further borrowing, while Hamzah completes his licence and works toward increasing the household income.
Your support can help this working family stay on track as they take practical steps toward becoming debt-free.
