A Father Who Wants to Keep Showing Up

At 50, Shaik is focused on recovering well enough to return to work and provide for his four children again.

Although he is divorced, he remains closely involved in his children’s lives and sees them every week. Their mother is currently the family’s sole income earner, and Shaik continues to contribute towards the children’s allowance whenever he can.

“I want to get back on my feet and work again,” he shared. “I don’t want to depend on others all the time. I want to provide for my children again.”

Before complications from diabetes changed his life, Shaik worked to support himself and stayed committed to his responsibilities as a father. That commitment has not changed. It continues to motivate him through each stage of his recovery.

Life After Amputation

Complications from diabetes led to the amputation of Shaik’s right toes. He is currently medically unfit for work and relies on a wheelchair while undergoing rehabilitation.

The sudden loss of income has made daily life much harder. Although he receives formal financial assistance, it is not enough to cover his basic living expenses, transport to medical and rehabilitation appointments, and other essential costs. During especially difficult periods, he has had to borrow from friends just to get by.

His limited mobility has also made it difficult to find suitable work for now. Still, Shaik remains determined to continue his rehabilitation and return to employment once he is medically fit.

Working Towards Independence

Shaik attends his medical appointments and rehabilitation faithfully because he wants to regain his mobility, return to work, and support himself through his own income again.

For Shaik, recovery means learning to live after an amputation while holding on to the role that matters deeply to him, being a father who continues to show up, contribute where he can, and work towards being independent.

“I don’t want to depend on others forever,” Shaik says. “I want to provide for my children again.”

With temporary support during this period, Shaik can focus on his recovery and rehabilitation while working towards the day he is fit to return to work and support his family once more.

What we’re raising funds for

Ray of Hope is raising $1,018* to provide Shaik with $250/month for the next 4 months

The funds will help cover:

  1. Daily living expenses and necessities.
  2. Transportation to essential medical, rehabilitation, and follow-up appointments.
  3. Temporary financial support that allows him to continue contributing towards caring for his four children

This support will give Shaik some stability while he focuses on healing.

*The campaign goal includes a 1.8% payment processing fee.
