Madam J is a 43-year-old widow with three school-going children. Her husband passed away a few years ago from AIDS. Her medical expense is $250 a month, of which $215.40 is for medication. She needs to be on lifelong medication. Mdm J is diagnosed with HIV and her youngest son is diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay.
Mdm J is the sole breadwinner of the family. She works part time as a canteen stall helper in her youngest son’s school. This allows her to watch over her son and fetch him to and from school. Mdm J is paid $396 per month during school term. However, she does not earn any income during the school holidays. Mdm J agrees that she will need to look for another better-paying job eventually. However, she can continue working in the school canteen until her 3rd son graduates from the school, which was at the end of 2019.
Mdm J is known to Social Service Office (SSO) and is receiving ComCare assistance from April 2019- July 2019. This includes cash assistance, Service and Conservancy Charges(S&CC) assistance as well as medical fees assistance for her 3 children. Mdm J does not receive the medical fees assistance due to her citizenship. Her children are also assisted with MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) in their respective schools, which includes $2 meal coupons, transport assistance of $10, free text books and uniform.
Financial breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise $7,754.40 for 3 years of Madam J’s medical costs ($215.40 per month)
