Ray of Hope is raising $3,000 ($500 x 6 months) to help Sheikh Afjal with his and his family’s living expenses.

Sheikh Afjal came to Singapore 9 years ago, seeking greener pastures. The 35 year-old Bangladeshi supports his family of 5 through his job as a construction worker. Earning approximately $900 a month, Afjal regularly remitted more than half the money he earned to his family in Bangladesh. However, tragedy struck in September 2020.

Afjal and his fellow colleague were carrying a timber gate, approximately forty kilograms in weight. His colleague tripped and caused Ajfal to fall into a 2m-deep drain, injuring his lower back and left arm. Having sustained serious injuries, Afjal is now unfit for work.

With a wife and three schooling children aged 20, 15 and 11, Afjal struggles to feed and care for his family. As a Special Pass holder, he is confined to his dormitory and battles with his own mental health. So far, Afjal has undergone only one physiotherapy session and has gotten two injections at the affected area. He hopes to be able to continue treatment, so that he may finally return to work.
