Meet Ad and Ayra
Ad is a 21-year-old mother to a lively and cheerful 2-year-old, Ayra. Once a dedicated retail assistant, Ad had to put her career on hold when she became pregnant with Ayra.
A Difficult Start
When Ad was 8 months pregnant, she contracted a severe urinary tract infection (UTI). Tragically, the bacteria spread to Ayra in the womb, prompting doctors to induce early delivery to prevent further complications or the risk of Ayra’s heartbeat stopping. Ayra was born with a swollen right kidney, a condition that has shaped much of their lives ever since.
Due to her kidney condition, Ayra struggles to pass urine and stools and frequently contracts UTIs. Hospitalisations have become a constant in their lives, with Ayra often admitted due to recurring high fevers. Regular check-ups with her surgeon continue, and there’s a possibility that Ayra may require surgery if her kidney remains swollen.
A Full-Time Caregiver
As Ayra’s condition requires constant care, Ad has become her full-time caregiver, unable to return to work in retail. The loss of income has left the family struggling to make ends meet.
In November, Ad made the heartbreaking decision to send Ayra to childcare, not for education, but because it ensured Ayra had regular meals. “I don’t care about myself,” Ad shared, “but my daughter needs to eat.”
How You Can Help
Balancing Ayra’s medical needs with financial struggles has been overwhelming for the Ad. This support will allow her to focus on Ayra’s health while seeking sustainable financial options. Ray of Hope is hoping to raise $3,420 for 6 months of living expenses ($570/month) which will cover:
– Groceries and essential supplies: $500
– Mobile bills: $25.45
– Transport expenses: $40
The Family’s Strength:
Despite the hardships, Ad remains unwavering in her dedication. She meticulously budgets, prioritising Ayra’s medical needs while seeking assistance wherever possible. Yet, the emotional weight of seeing Ayra endure pain while feeling financially powerless is a constant challenge.
“It’s incredibly stressful,” Ad shared. “We constantly worry about rent, bills, necessities, and debts. The financial strain makes it hard to focus on anything else.”
Together we can support Ad and Ayra and help them through this difficult time. Every contribution brings them closer to stability, ensuring they can focus on health, hope, and healing.
