On 7 June 2024, just six months into a new job, Rahman, a 29-year-old migrant worker, faced a life-altering accident. On 7 June 2024, just six months into a new job, Rahman, a 29-year-old migrant worker, faced a life-altering accident. While cutting metal, Rahman pushed a piece too deep into the cutter, severing the middle finger of his left hand. In shock and pain, he sought help from his supervisor, who directed him to the safety officer. However, instead of receiving immediate medical attention, Rahman was told to wait in the office for two long hours before being sent to the National University Hospital (NUH). To make matters worse, as the accident occurred on a weekend, Rahman had to wait until Monday to undergo surgery.
For most people, time spent working away from home means bringing back souvenirs or memories for loved ones. For Rahman, however, his time in Singapore has instead brought him immense pain—both physical and emotional. The severed tip of his finger is now a constant reminder of his struggles. This injury compounded the grief he had been carrying since March 2024, when he and his wife lost their one-year-old son. Rahman’s inability to be by his wife’s side during this tragic time weighs heavily on him. While his wife grieves alone at home, Rahman remains in Singapore, anxiously awaiting the completion of the Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) assessment process.
Your Support Can Help Rahman Heal
Rahman’s only wish is to return home to comfort his wife and heal together from their shared loss. Until then, he needs help to cover his basic living expenses in Singapore. Having worked in Singapore since 2015, Rahman has always strived to provide for his family, but this accident has left him in an incredibly vulnerable position.
Ray of Hope is fundraising $1,800 to provide Rahman with six months of living assistance at $300 per month. This will help him meet his daily needs as he awaits clarity on his situation. Your generosity can ease Rahman’s financial burden and show him that he is not alone during this challenging time.
