What happened to Ellina?

Ellina and her husband, Hidayat, are parents to four children between the ages of 4 and 1. The couple is expecting their fifth child in late November. Hidayat, previously employed as a delivery courier driver, experienced an unexpected setback when his contract was terminated in October. He suffers from a series of health challenges, including a slip disc diagnosis in 2020, exacerbated by strenuous physical activity at work. Recent medical assessments in April 2023 revealed degenerative changes in his spine, accompanied by mild left foraminal stenosis and spondylosis, resulting in chronic back and neck pain with continued numbness. Urgent leave-taking to address his health concerns eventually led to the termination of his employment.

With their four young children and one more on the way, the couple is burdened by financial stress and uncertainty.

Ellina, the primary caregiver to her children, was faced with the challenges of her husband’s physical health and unexpected job loss. Hidayat, previously employed as a delivery courier driver, underwent a period of medical recuperation in April 2023. Unfortunately, his employer, citing business disruptions caused by his medical leaves, terminated his contract with a notice period extending until November 2023. With the impending arrival of their fifth child, the family anticipates additional financial expenses, intensifying the strain on their current situation.

Despite these challenges, Hidayat is resilient and has a clear plan of action. While actively pursuing physical therapy and occupational therapy to alleviate the pain, he currently remains committed to fulfilling his work responsibilities until the completion of his notice period. Additionally, he has plans to apply for a Private Hire Car Driver’s Vocational Licence (PDVL) and explore job opportunities in the transportation sector, leveraging on his connections that could facilitate his reemployment. The expected timeline for the PDVL application and completion is by the end of the year.
