Background
Rajan* is a 17-year-old teenager. He has big aspirations and loves anything related to IT, cyber security and robotics. He is currently doing his N-Levels and in future he wishes to enrol into an IT related course. His mother, Mdm Rama*, 53-years-old, is a Singaporean citizen who was living in Malaysia upon her marriage. They moved back to Singapore upon the death of Rajan’s father.
When they moved back to Singapore, they were homeless and was staying at a shelter. They now have their own rental unit. While Mdm Rama is a Singaporean citizen, Rajan is not. He is currently on Student Pass and he informed me that his Singapore citizenship application was recently rejected. He is currently appealing the rejection.
The Struggle                                                                 Â
As Rajan is on student pass, his school fees are not subsidised and his mother struggles to pay for his school fees. Ray of Hope has earlier fundraised for Rajan’s N-Level fees and his school fees for the months of September 2019 – December 2019 and to clear his education arrears of S$4,004.
Rajan was be able to complete his N-Levels and receive his transcript due to kind donors. However, Rajan still worries for his school fees next year as he wishes to enrol into an IT related Higher Nitec course.
Rajan’s mother suffers from poor health. She has fibroid, which is a non-cancerous growth that develop in and around the womb. She also has varicose veins and swelling legs. Mdm Rama was working as a part-time cleaner however, she had to stop working completely in August this year after she had a fall at the MRT platform and is now weak and unable to walk without the support of a cane.
Financial breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$4,800 (S$400 x 12 months) so that Rajan can continue his education. Rajan is a well-spoken and polite young man with a bright future ahead of him. He wishes to complete his education so that he will be able to better support his mother who is ill. Please help Rajan complete his education as education is the only way out of poverty!
* Mdm Rama is receiving government financial assistance
* Names have been changed to protect their identity
