The Struggle

Previously, Ray of Hope has helped fundraise for Ms Rian and her child who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome (1st fundraiser & 2nd fundraiser). Since birth, Ms Rian’s child has completed three major surgeries and is now on the road to recovery. The case workers recently caught up with Ms Rian and learnt that her child has been recovering well and is now enrolled in an early intervention programme with a special needs school.

Ms Rian’s child is due to start school on 15th January 2019, but even with the future looking good, the single mum has greater concerns about the expenses, especially when the baby’s current medical consumables already takes up more than a third of her monthly salary.

Help Needed – Give Hope

The past months have been emotionally draining for the single mum, especially when she has to take charge of all household matters. On top of that, the surgeries that her child has undergone have taken a toll on the family financials. Her child’s medical consumables are estimated at $400-$500 a month. While the bulk of her hospital bills are duductible via Medisave, payment for the consumables need to be paid in cash.

Ms Rian confided in us that all she hopes is to see her child grow up healthy and not be deprived of the happiness that she deserves, and she will always prioritize the baby’s interest over hers. Ms Rian is extremely relieved that her child is finally able to attend school.

Despite the physical and emotional fatigue that she has to go through, Ms Rian has never given up and has continued caring for her child tirelessly. While knowing that her meagre salary is the only source of income for the family, Ms Rian can only take comfort as her two older children are stepping up responsibilities at home to help ease her burdens.

Financial Breakdown

ROHI would like to raise $2,218.16 to help defray Ms Rian’s expenses for the following:

– Upfront payment for school fees, transport and school-related expenses: $598.16 (payment will be made directly to the school and transport company)

– Monthly assistance of $270 for school fees ($120 per month) and transport ($150 per month)

*Ms Rian is currently not receiving SSO assistance.
