0Days to go
This is Harpal’s fourth work trip to Singapore. He keeps coming despite paying those ridiculous agent’s fees as he needs the work to support his family. Just before he arrived in Singapore in March this year, he got engaged. The happy occasion was attended by both families and friends. It was a day to be remembered for Harpal and the bride-to-be. Slightly over two months later, he met with the accident.
The 32-year-old was dismantling a door frame when the ladder he was standing on toppled over. His body slammed against the shards of a badly removed toilet bowl and the adjacent wall. His back, shoulders and finger were badly hurt. He was warded for five nights and was given three months MC. However, his employer was not happy and refused to provide further medical care for him.
Help Needed – Give Hope
In total, Harpal paid $12,500 in agent’s fees and $4,000 to acquire new skills to come to Singapore to work. In a good month, he earned $700 a month with overtime. He keeps $250 for himself here and sends the rest back to his family. His father is unemployed and his mother is a homemaker disk medication. He has two brothers who barely make enough to support themselves. There’s also his sister who’s studying.
Harpal was hoping to save up for his big day. He estimated he needs close to S$14,000 and he was hoping to save up for that while working here. The accident has left him injured and without an income, let alone the means to send remittances home to his family or to repay his loans.
Ray of Hope would like to raise $750 for Harpal’s living expenses ($250 x 3 months). Your donations can give hope to the injured worker and enable him to send remittances home.
*Ray of Hope case workers have cited medical documents provided by Harpal. However, they will not be published as he is currently seeking recourse with MOM.
