Ray of Hope is raising $4,800 ($800 x 6 months) to support Jiejian and his family for the next 6 months. The funds will help his family with their living expenses as he continues with treatment.

Jiejian is from the Anhui province of China and is married with two children, aged 12 and 22. Both he and his wife work to support their family. Jiejian’s wife works in a factory; as a general worker doing woodwork in construction, Jiejien earned between $1,400 to $1,500 a month. He would remit the bulk of his salary to his family for their living expenses, keeping around $200 for himself.

On 26 December 2021, tragedy struck. Jiejian was building the framework for a stairway and upper level, when he fell 4 meters. He suffered abrasions on his left arm and fractured his right knee, which required surgery.

Jiejian underwent the procedure and was issued 14 days of medical leave and 33 days of light duty. However, his right knee did not heal well even after surgery. Since then, Jiejian has not been able to work due to a piercing pain when he climbs up the stairway or walks for too long.

With no income to support his medical treatment and his family, Jiejian is under immense stress as the family has lost their main source of income. He shared with the caseworkers that his wife only earns around $500, and the children’s schooling expenses are now a strain on the family. However, Jiejian and his wife are trying their best to keep their children in school despite their financial hardship.

Jiejian currently attends weekly TCM treatment and physiotherapy sessions offered by an NGO.
