What happened to Mr Li?

On 17th December 2022, Mr Li met with a workplace accident. He was on his way down after plastering the wall near the ceiling when he fell. He landed on his back after it struck the metal edge of the platform that he was standing on. 

Following the accident, Mr Li was sent back to his dormitory. He was only sent to the hospital around 11pm that night due to the relentless, excruciating pain he continued to be in.  He was issued 9 days of medical leave and he resumed work thereafter, relying on painkillers to manage the pain on his back. 

After the pain persisted, Mr Li returned to the doctor and was eventually issued 90 days of medical leave. However, he only received partial MC wages of less than $2,000 which he had remitted home to his family.

How can you help?

Help alleviate Mr Li’s mounting financial worries and cover his living expenses ($500 x 6 months) while he focuses on recuperating and for MOM assessment to take place. Funds raised will be transferred to the worker directly.

Mr Li is from Jiangsu,  China. He is married with three children, aged 22, 28 and 29. The 55 year-old was his family’s sole breadwinner, working as a General Worker in construction. He earned approximately $2,300 a month, and would remit the bulk of his salary to his family for their living expenses, keeping about $500 for himself. 

It has been 9 months since his accident which left him with a fractured back. Mr Li continues to struggle with severe pain that does not allow him to stand or sit for long. With mounting pressure to send remittances home to his wife and children, Mr Li has turned to an NGO that supports injured workers through providing TCM treatment. He also attends physiotherapy sessions at the hospital up to thrice a week.
