Ray of Hope is raising $3,600 ($600 x 6 months) to defray the grocery expenses for Louis’ family, while his wife is in recovery.

Louis, 39, is the sole breadwinner in his family; his wife, Kelly is the primary caregiver of their children. Louis earns an average salary of $2,200 per month, as a sales ambassador. The family has four school-going children aged 9, 10, 12 and 15.

In July 2021, Kelly was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. The cancer cells had spread to her spine and bones and the doctors did not recommend chemotherapy. Instead, Kelly has relied on hormonal medication to slow down the spread. Louis shared that Kelly’s condition has stabilised and goes for bi-monthly check-ups at the hospital, but the medication still triggers headaches and causes fatigue.

Louis himself is on medication for cardiac issues. His doctors have advised him to undergo a valve replacement surgery, but Louis hopes to channel all possible resources towards supporting Kelly on her recovery.

Kelly’s medications are fully covered by Medifund, but budgeting for the family is a challenge, because Louis’ income fluctuates. The couple’s main concern is now putting food on the table for their children.
