Ray of Hope is raising $3,600 ($600 x 6 months) to help Mdm Guna with her grocery expenses while she settles into her new job.

Mdm Guna, 56, lives with her two sons, aged 18 and 23, in a 4-bedroom flat.

Her husband lives in Malaysia and she has been supporting the children on her own, for many years. Mdm Guna previously worked as a part-time cook, and is now a full-time cleaner at an eatery. She earns approximately $1,050 a month.

Mdm Guna’s eldest daughter passed away in October 2020, and the family still bears the impact of that loss. After her daughter’s death, Mdm Guna’s older son slipped into depression and struggled to find a job. He recently started working as a food delivery rider, but only works when he feels well enough.

Mdm Guna’s younger son is awaiting admission to the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

Daily life is a struggle for Mdm Guna, not least of all because of the family’s tight financial situation. With one breadwinner, it has been challenging for the family to keep up with their expenses. Over the years, the emotional stress from mounting household bills and arrears have weighed heavily on the mental well-being of every family member.
