What happened to Mdm Imah?

Mdm Imah is a 42-year-old single mother caring for her two children aged 18 and 16. In August 2021, she was diagnosed with De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, a painful condition affecting the tendons in her wrists and thumb. She has been working as a cleaner since December 2022, but her condition recently worsened, causing excruciating pain in her wrist and impacting her ability to carry out her work and daily tasks. When the chronic pain became unbearable, she sought medical help. Her doctors have certified her as unfit for employment until August 2024.

Despite these setbacks, Mdm Imah remains determined to make the most of her time. With the help of her WSQ career coach, she has enrolled in a Security Course, aiming to upskill and increase her earning potential.

How can you help?

Ray of Hope is supporting Mdm Imah and her family by raising $1,750. Your donation will be allocated as follows:

1. Living Expenses: $850 to support her family while they await the outcome of her SSO assistance ending in October 2023.
2. Course Allowance: $300 per month for three months, ensuring Mdm Imah can attend her course, taking into account the increase in expenditure for the course duration.

Mdm Imah’s struggle with De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis began in early 2021 when she started experiencing limitations in her thumb and wrist movements. Everyday activities like pinching and grasping became painful, making even the simplest tasks a challenge. In August 2021, she underwent a surgery to prevent the condition from spreading further into her forearm.

Post-recovery, Mdm Imah worked as a cleaner to provide for her family. With her earning approximately $1,200 per month, she was able to support her children. However, in August 2023, a sudden relapse in her condition left her in chronic pain. The pain in her wrist worsened over time, leading her doctor to certify her unfit for employment.

Despite these setbacks, Mdm Imah is committed to upskill herself to secure a brighter future for her family. She has enrolled herself in a three-month Security Course, with her goal being to successfully complete the course, pass the security test, and obtain her certification. Simultaneously, Mdm Imah is following up closely with her doctors on possible treatment plans to promote her recovery.
