Help Melvin live in a more conducive living environment
Campaign started on 29/09/2020Campaign Story
Melvin, aged 45 years old, was diagnosed with spastic paraparesis 12 years ago and complicated with existing epilepsy for 25 years – impeding his ability to walk and stand. He is dependent on a motorized wheelchair to get around the community and his home. As Melvin is prone to sudden epilepsy, he is unable to work full-time and depends on Public Assistance and other agency’s financial assistance for his daily and medical needs. He is certified with a permanent disability and is permanently unfit for work.
Melvin is currently receiving financial assistance from different organisations. However, the financial assistance is insufficient to cover his living and medical expenses.
Currently, Melvin lives in a one-room rental flat. He has applied to move into a two-room rental flat as the toilet entrance in the current flat is narrow. His motorised wheelchair has caused difficulties in movement around the narrow spaces of his current house. This is also made worse by the size of the hospital bed that he requires. Most of his appliances and furniture have undergone wear and tear, and will need to be changed once he moves into his new rental flat.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$13,746 for Melvin. The money received will be used for the refurbishment of his new home such as wiring and customization of furniture. A new home for Melvin would make his life more convenient and his environment more conducive.
*Melvin is currently receiving financial assistance.

It’s a need to maintain a conducive home environment to live and function. With a fixed layout, one workaround is to customise the space into a person-friendly one to encourage living with ease. I support this cause as I am inspired by your resilience in this journey and I look forward to you having your new space that you can call “my home”.
