Facing challenges head on
Mira’s journey has been one of relentless struggle and determination to provide the best for her family despite facing overwhelming challenges.
Mira is a devoted mother to four beautiful children, aged between 3 to 10. Three of her children suffer from severe respiratory conditions, with her 6-year-old daughter, Ida, battling severe chronic asthma. Ida has been hospitalized numerous times, including stays in the Intensive Care Unit. The burden of medical bills and the constant worry about her children’s health have taken a toll on Mira’s own mental and emotional well-being, leading to bouts of depression and anxiety.Â
Lend Mira’s family your support
We can make a meaningful difference in Mira’s and her children’s lives. We aim to raise funds equivalent to 6 months’ worth of assistance to help alleviate some of the financial burden Mira is facing.
$805 monthly will cover essential household necessities such as groceries, utilities, milk and diapers. It also funds the cost of transportation when Mira needs to take her children to the hospital. This allows Mira to focus on caring for her children without the added stress of financial worry.
More about Mira’s circumstances
Mira’s eldest child, a 10-year-old boy, grapples with severe obstructive sleep apnea and chronic asthma. He is also suspected of having special learning developmental needs. Struggling to keep pace in school, he awaits a diagnosis to receive tailored academic support. Similarly, her 7-year-old daughter battles asthma, often missing school due to respiratory issues.
Little Ida, aged 6, endures such severe asthma that she has been hospitalised five times in the past six months, each stay necessitating time in the Intensive Care Unit. Mira recounts harrowing moments where Ida required resuscitation upon arrival at the Emergency Department. The perpetual anxiety over her children’s well-being, coupled with mounting financial worries, takes a profound toll on Mira’s mental and emotional health.
This year, the children’s health woes persist, with recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, even affecting their otherwise healthy 3-year-old with severe flu symptoms. In March, Ida faced a collapsed lung, necessitating surgical intervention, and she is presently in recovery from the procedure.
Despite maintaining a full-time administrative position in the healthcare industry, Mira’s financial situation has reached a critical juncture. Her children’s extensive health needs led to multiple leave applications. In turn, depleted leave entitlements, including childcare and annual leave, have forced her to take unpaid leave to care for her children. By the end of 2023, she was in a negative-pay predicament. This strips her of income and places her in debt to her employer.
In the face of these challenges, Mira and her husband persevere. Both maintain full-time jobs, hoping their current financial crisis will eventually subside as they strive to provide for their family’s needs. Mira remains optimistic that as her children mature, their conditions will improve under her attentive care.
