“I have to support my parents and two younger siblings so they do not suffer.”
Campaign started on 17/09/2020Campaign Story
Monzurul, 30 years old, is the eldest among three siblings. He is the family’s sole breadwinner and came to Singapore to support his elderly parents and two schooling younger siblings. He came to Singapore in 2015 and earned a basic salary of just S$420 per month. With overtime, he will earn up to an average of S$500 a month. However, the bulk of his salary would be remitted back home for his family’s living expenses while he kept a small amount for his monthly expenses here.
On the 30th of October 2019, Monzurul met with a workplace-related accident. He was helping out by carrying a metal angle bar, which struck his leg when he fell. He was sent to his company’s clinic afterwards with back and shoulder injuries. However, the pain persisted even after three days. He then decided to visit the hospital where he was prescribed with medication to stop the swelling and was given 5 days of medical leave.
In 2018, Monzurul was diagnosed with diabetes. Since then, he finds it difficult to manage his blood sugar levels effectively as the meals catered to him do not meet his diabetic needs. Hence, he has to spend more money on his meals as compared to his peers.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$2,800 (S$700 x 4 months) to defray Monzurul’s family’s living expenses in Bangladesh. Your donations can give hope to the injured worker and enable him to send remittances home.
