What happened to Mr. Kong?
On 10 July 2023, Mr. Kong, a dedicated carpenter in Singapore, suffered a severe injury on the job. While dismantling scaffolding, a metal pipe fell on his left hand, causing a broken bone. Despite the pain, Mr. Kong continued working, determined to fulfill his responsibilities.
Unfortunately, Mr Kong’s pain intensified, necessitating further medical investigations. X-rays revealed a fracture, but Mr. Kong’s employer insisted on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment for a month. This treatment worsened the situation by causing misalignment of the bone, causing further pain and hindering recovery.
Worried and in persistent pain, Mr. Kong sought medical attention at a hospital against his employer’s wishes. His injuries were reported in September and he underwent surgery in October to insert a metal implant and correct the misalignment. Lingering pain remains due to the delay in receiving proper treatment.
How can you help?
You can lessen Mr. Kong’s financial worries by supporting his financial commitments and living expenses ($472 x 6 months), while he focuses on recuperating and for MOM assessment to conclude. Funds raised will be transferred to the worker directly. Your gift brings Mr. Kong closer to returning to work and supporting his family, a future he deeply desires. All funds raised will be transferred directly to Mr. Kong.
Find out more:
Mr. Kong is from Henan, China. He is married with 3 children, aged 13, 17 and 29. Since arriving in Singapore in 2008, Mr. Kong has diligently built his career, increasing his salary from $700 to $3,000 a month. He faithfully sent $2,400 back home each month to support his family. The 55 year-old was his family’s sole breadwinner, working as a Carpenter in construction.Â
Mr. Kong’s medical leave stretched over four months, with partial compensation that included meal allowances. Unfortunately, his employer recently cut off these meal allowances, making it even harder for him to support his family back home.
Nearly 10 months ago, Mr. Kong’s accident left him with lingering pain due to an improperly healed bone. This constant, severe pain makes lifting heavy objects impossible for Mr. Kong. Determined to provide for his family back home, he has sought help from an NGO specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment for injured workers. His hope is to regain his strength and return to the job he loves.
